Christmas Giving Tree
What We Offer
GIVING TREE / HOLIDAY ASSISTANCE
Each November, our Church family helps those less fortunate to have a brighter Christmas by selecting an ornament tied on a Tree in the vestibules of the church. See Bulletin in November for details. In Advent the items are brought to Church, sorted and then distributed. Donations are sent to Holy Childhood, St. Vincent de Paul, Holy Cross, St. Philip Neri, Catholic Charities, African Children, Mexican Children, Honduras Children, Holy Spirit Special Religious Education and Needy Parish Families.
We also work to pair up needy families with parishioners who want to share their blessings. Singles, families, small church groups and businesses offer their assistance. As calls for Christmas help come to the office, the Business Office Staff does their best to match up the needy family with a sponsor group. Contact the Parish Office for more information.
MINISTRY OF THE WEEK INFORMATION
The Giving Tree Ministry has existed since 1996. In the last 20 years, we have given thousands of needy families and charities Christmas joy through generous donations of gifts and money.
A few days before Halloween, six volunteers set up and decorate three trees in the church. The tree has nine types of ornaments that each represents a chrity that needs gifts or monetary donations.
One volunteer is needed at each Mass over those next four weekends to replenish the tree ornaments and collect gifts under the trees. Once a week, one or two volunteers take the gifts to the distribution at St. Philip Nerri.
Holy Spirit Parishioners typically give over 400 gift items to the St. Philip/Holy Cross Parishes.
