Lectors

What We Offer

The Lectors’ ministry provides the lectors (or readers) for all the Masses on weekends and during the week.  Lectors proclaim the readings and invoke the petitions at Mass. In preparation for each liturgical assignment, the lector spends a few hours during the preceding week in prayerful preparation.  Reading skills, the ability to develop proclamation techniques and a clear and steady voice are attributes of a lector. Each lector is provided with a personal copy of the lectors´ workbook annually and attend a workshop.  A willingness to study the Scriptures and time to pray with the readings before each liturgical assignment are necessary commitments for a Lector.

Purpose: For the lector, preparation for the Masses brings one closer to the Bible and makes it more a part of one’s life. Proclamation allows one to participate in a significant way at Mass by sharing with the congregation one’s spirituality.
Who Belongs: Open to adult and teenage parishioners who have a reverent respect for God’s Holy Word and can proclaim it with a clear speaking voice.

How Often Do They Meet: The lectors take their turns on a rotating basis as assigned by the ministry leader, typically no more than one Mass per week.

Bible Quote

Abide in me, and I in you.  As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vien, neither can you, unless you abide in me. - John 15:4
